Closing in on Climate: Change What We Know and What We Don't Know

New York, NY (December 19, 2011) - Global warming has been so controversial and opinions about it, both for and against, have been so strongly stated by many experts, politicians and pundits that it is hard to determine what to believe. Into the Silence

Please note that this event is now fully SOLD OUT, both for the lecture and the dinner.

New York, NY (December 12, 2011) - Famed explorer, Wade Davis, vividly recreates British climbers' epic attempts to scale Mount Everest in the late 1920's in this magisterial work of history and adventure, based on more than a decade of prodigious research in British, Canadian and European archives, as well as months in the fields of Nepal and Tibet. Davis recounts the heroic efforts of George Mallory and his fellow climbers to conquer the mountain in the face of treacherous terrain and furious weather, taking us far beyond the Himalayas to the trenches of WWI, where they found themselves and their world utterly shattered.

Science is Sexy

New York, NY (December 5, 2011) - Ira Flatow, the award winning host of the NPR's popular sci-tech show Science Friday, will discuss the difficulties of presenting science and technology to a public that loves to talk about science, but cannot get enough of it through conventional channels. He will explore the challenges of a public that is uneducated in this issue, of a new congress where many lawmakers do not hold much faith in the power of science, and an extreme religious movement that believes the earth to be no more than 6,000 years old. Despite these challenges, Flatow will prove that the general public still enjoys hearing the news about this topic, and that is being "rediscovered" by the popular media through its thematic omnipresence in films, theatre, and the arts. Due to the high tech world of computers and medicine, science itself has become a topic of discussion once more. It has become "sexy."
