"there  are  two  ways  through  life.  the  way  of  nature  and  the  way  of  grace."

...  this  is  where  terrence  malick's ( badlands,  the  thin  red  line,  the  new  world )  ambitious,  perplexing  new  film  the  tree  of  life  ran  into  problems  with  his  fatally  flawed  brilliance.  it  is  an  attempt  at  evoking  answers  to  questions  towards  the  universe,  much  like  stanley  kubrick's  2001:  a  space  odyssey,  solidified  by  great  performances  from  its  cast,  and  a  series  of  audacious  sequences  captured  in  breathtaking  cinematography.  unfortunately,  malick  concentrated  on  the concept  through  visual  poetry  so  much  that  he  somehow  seemed  to  have  fallen  short  on  the  narrative.  though  this  is  quite  a  rare  kind  of  film,  i  cannot  help  but  compare  it  to  darren  aronofsky's  the  fountain.  both  have  stunning  visual  imagery  with  cerebral,  metaphysical  concepts,  accompanied  by  nothing  but  a  deep  sigh  of  disappointment  and  exhaustion.

i watch cool nights through this cracked window to look at old men dressed out of style with smooth insanities like blown glass on your face, faded and pale, as dulled faint stars, lightyears away, cartwheel slowly through the soft firmament of mute straining trees. 

alone, with a distant light, i carve this ruined face as i dwell in the most perfect silence the world never knew.

what can i do? ^__^

and so, per 5 friends' request and after almost a year of refusal, i finally gave in to seeing floria sigismondi's the runaways, starring dakota fanning, kristen stewart, and michael shannon. it had decent photography. that's about it. the film felt like a lazy and poorly constructed biopic that resulted in nothing  but an extended 106 minute music video. stewart's depiction of joan jett's masculinity was bored and awkward instead of dynamic and passionate, wishing selma blair was young enough for the part because she would've played it perfectly. fanning and shannon were the film's only redeeming factors. kudos to fanning for shedding her childhood roles and surprising us with her grown up, sexier side. 


the runaways deserves nothing less than 1 1/2 stars, but can't say it should be given more either, even if you watch it for free at home.  unless you're bored (like kristen stewart's face and acting in all her films) or sick, you're better off wasting your time doing something else.

2. finally, a slice of peace and justice to the 9.11 victims and those they left behind.

3. obama just may have sealed the deal for 2012.

4. the norm of morons who exist solely on instinct, much less even have the slightest understanding of politics, along with ethnocentrics who fancy themselves as patriots, are all out and about in the world to decadently spread their ignorant, biased, baseless, vapid opinions on the matter just to indulge in their former silent bigotry.

5. "osama's death will have the same effect on al-qaeda as (ray) kroc dying had on mcdonald's. the franchise has already been built."  - bill maher

6. the media will exhaust this current event, and it's going to be the momentary opiate of the masses, mainly for those mentioned in #4.

7. wishing there was a photo for every republican politician's facial expression when this news first broke out.

8. since this truly proves that nothing is impossible, i hope that the next breaking news story we hear won't be about another oil spill, genocides and natural disasters (or worse... charlie sheen), but for the war to actually end, sending our troops home.

9. i don't say this often , if not at all, due to my own personal views of what we(our country)have done, but it's pretty acceptable to actually say it this time: god bless america =)

model lara [catherina]stone's imperfections - the questionable 

wobbly way she walks down the runway (possibly due to her 5'10" height with size 7 

feet as opposed to the 8-10 norm), her high chiseled cheekbones, 

the masculine jaw line, and the gap between her front teeth - are 

genuinely the nature of true beauty. . . raw, dynamic and captivating.
