New York, NY (January 30, 2012) - Researcher, writer, and photographer Patrick Gorham concludes this month's Explorers Club Lecture Series with his talk on Bala Ba, a Malinke (southern Guinea) traditional instrument of spiritual and historical significance, which was created in the 1500's by the descendants of Ballafasseke Kouyate. From the late sixteenth through the early nineteenth century, this instrument was utilized in praise of elite farming masters, hunters, blacksmiths, and powerful chiefs of the region.
